The Slim Jeans Story

My friends call them slim jeans. I call them checkpoint jeans. Most of my lady friends own at least a pair. Some of them have slim jeans, kebaya, little black dress and tight fitting tops. When we were younger, none of us ever admitted that we've been shopping and decided to grab jeans/dress/tops that was one or two dress size smaller thinking that we might fit wearing it one day.

I've done this since I was in secondary school but only have the guts to share the story with my friends during one of our coffee sessions after I joined the big three-oh club.

I bought a pair of jeans (which was one size smaller) when I was in form 5. It was very difficult wear, I had to wiggle like worms put on a hot tin roof in order to get in and out of my slim jeans. When I finally managed to zip it up, I'd be having breathing difficulties. So, I hung it in my wardrobe and every now and them I'd stare at it and told myself that I must be able to wear that jeans comfortably one day.

Well, that day never came. By the time I got married I still have that jeans stashed somewhere in the store room. I found it one day, tried to wiggle into it but it didn't even pass my thigh. So, I guess I must have outgrown it by 4 dress sizes by then, hehehe..

In 2006, again I bought a pair of jeans which was one size smaller. It was not planned to become another pair of slim jeans. We went to have lunch at KFC restaurant in Shah Alam and Wazif knocked down a cup filled with Mirinda Strawberry on me. My pants was soaked and I had no choice but to run to the nearest clothing store to get another pants. The nearest shop there happened to be Giordano, and they only sold young people's cloth. There was no plus size shop there. I told the shop assistant to find me a man's loose cut jeans. I was lucky I managed to put it on (albeit with great difficulty).

They didn't have anything bigger, so I bought that pair of jeans and wore it right away and put my Mirinda strawberry soaked pants in the shopping bag.
That was the only time I wore it. After a few months I did try to put it on but I couldn't even pull up he zipper.

I was thinking of giving it away, but not sure to who. My brothers are all taller than me and have bigger waists. My hubby has smaller waist. So the Giordano jeans stayed in my wardrobe along with my other plus sized work pants.

After I gave birth last year I gave it another try. Managed to zip up but it was too tight, I couldn't even lift my knees.

Between January and June 2010 I have been going to gym quite regularly and became more conscious of what I ate. My total weight loss during that period was 6kg. My work shirts became loose and I had to box many skirts and pants because whenever I wore them they always fell below my waistline and it was rather uncomfortable.

One Saturday morning, we were rushing to go out for breakfast. I just grab the first pants hanger I found in my wardrobe. My wardrobe desperately needed some lighting as I couldn't tell my dark coloured clothes one from another. So, I just put on the jeans I took out, zip it up and walked out of my room to find my tudung I left in the ironing room. Now this room is facing sunrise and it's always very bright in the morning. Then I realized the colour of my jeans. I thought I put on one of the Marks and Spencer's stretchable jeans, but I only had them in dark blue and black. The one I had on was indigo. So, I turned around and checked the label on my back. It was THAT Giordano jeans! Well, what I did next was soooooo predictable. I quickly ran into my room and took out my old measuring tape to get another confirmation that I was in fact SMALLER by one dress size. Hehe.. It was so funny as my topic of conversation for that whole week revolved around 'my slim jeans that finally fits'. I wore that same jeans for 3 weeks before I decided to wash it (and I prayed hard it wouldn't shrink the moment I took it out of the washing machine).

So, my dear lady friends.... keep those slim jeans/LBD/top/kebaya and try them on at least once a month. You'll be motivated to work out and eat healthily. I know how good it felt when they finally fit.

Makcik Calon - April update

This has got to be one my slowest progressing mission. February and March passed by without any positive signs. Then a few weeks ago I finally managed to get Calon Cewek and Calon Cowok to have lunch together (plus 3 more people on the same table....) Somehow I could sense that Calon Cowok noticed that I've been trying to pair them. When he came to join us for lunch he tried to flirt a bit with Calon Cewek. And I just couldn't understand why in the world Calon Cewek was not playing along.

Well let me just get some facts straight, Calon Cowok's humour is not something that all cewek could take. Sometimes it's rather rude or most of the times just plain stupid. I believe Calon Cewek didn't really like his jokes or his flirt that day. She sat eating very quietly and didn't really participate in the conversation. Anyway, due to the awkwardness, we didn't engage in interesting conversation at all. Everybody tried to be polite (after some stupid jokes that Calon Cowok made) and in the end it was one of the most boring lunch I ever had.

I got to know from a very reliable source that Calon Cewek was interested in Calon Cowok. But that was a month before that lunch we had. Now I am now very sure anymore. It will be a great waste if Calon Cowok ruins this effort. The truth is many guys are after Calon Cewek but none of them dares to make the first move.

Lately I've been spending quite a lot of time with Calon Cewek and I realized that she has a virtual wall built around her that is very difficult to penetrate. Just when I thought I was getting to know her better, she'll just block many more things from me. At times I wonder whether she's hiding some dark history of her life.

Perhaps what I should do next is warn Calon Cowok to appear as a gentleman in front of her. Although that's definitely not Calon Cowok's personality but I hope he'll manage to change Calon Cewek's perception. Actually Calon Cowok is not too bad looking. He might not appear as handsome as some Hollywood movie stars but he's quite easy on the eyes. Just easy, not handsome but not bad either. I know he can get Calon Cewek if he really put some effort.

Ok, now for my challenge this coming May: how do I get both of them to spend some quality time together (again?). Just the two of them.... minus the usual hang out friends. How ar? Howwww?????

UPM and durians

I submitted this short story at CitiOfSharedStoriesKualaLumpur:

It was a breezy Saturday afternoon in 1997, a year before I graduated from UPM - University
of Agriculture, Malaysia. My flatmates and I decided to go for a volleyball game at the University's expo site - also known as Bukit Ekspo. Its lush green plus a few man-made lakes made it a famous spot for students to hang out on lazy weekends. The athletic ones would jog or cycle around the area. It's a huge compound where the university's annual Convocation Expo would be held.

Bukit Ekspo is situated about 1KM from the main gate and we had to take our motorcycles. There were four of us riding two Honda bikes. Back then, we didn't have much money to spend on expensive shopping tours at the Kuala Lumpur city so we spent most weekends together at the flat, went gossipping at the library or did power walk at Bukit Ekspo. However, that Saturday we decided to play volleyball.

There were durian trees planted along the main road to Bukit Ekspo. I was once told there were more than 10 types of durian that can be found in UPM area. It's an agricultural university where many researches take place, so it's not a surprise to have that many durians.

It happened to be the durian season. We saw green thorny durians high up on the trees as we ride our bikes along the lonely main road. Most cyclists and power walkers would take the alternative routes as they're shorter. We slowed down and finally stopped our bikes just to admire the king of fruit hanging on the trees. The fence along the road was high; so all we could do was stand by the road side and salivating for a taste of durian.

'Let's pray at least one durian would fall,' said my friend Nonie.

'Let's pray that four would fall,' added my other friend, Fid followed by small laughters.

'I don't think it's time yet,' said Mar who looked like some scientist scrutinizing each fruit.

'If they're meant to be ours it would fall,' I tried to sound optimistic.

We stood there checking one tree after another and silently prayed in our hearts that the durian would fall. Fid, who was a student doing a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Engineering told us that many of the durian trees there were the D29 type which also meant that they're among the best in Malaysia. Nonie and I were doing Electronics and Computer Engineering so we have no idea what type of durian we were staring at. We only recognized the thorns and the smell. We couldn't even differentiate Malaysian durians from those imported from Thailand.

After a short briefing on durian by Fid we decided to continue our short journey to Bukit Expo before the area got too crowded with people. Just when I was about to kick my bike's starter we heard a thud. All four heads turned and we screamed in unision, 'DURIANNNNNN!!!!!'

Miracles did happen and prayers answered. They materialized in the form of a falling durian. That was the most beautiful durian I ever saw on the ground. It's the durian all of us have been salivating and praying for.

We didn't want to waste any time so I took out a screw driver from underneath my bike's seat. It took me on thirty second to open the durian using my screw driver. In the absence of a big knife or 'parang', a screw driver always came in handy in any durian situation.

The four of us sat on the grass and enjoyed God's gift from the sky. UPM is such a rich and generous university, students can get durians for free!

Serious takde selera nak makan....

No you are not dreaming. Those words are from me, a well known hantu makan. I love so many kinds of food - oh what's new.... everybody knows that. However, after my confinement I found it difficult to chew food sold at restaurants and food stalls. I went to Alamanda food court, ordered my favorite but after a few bites I lost interest. There goes my appetite. Today I had lunch at the office cafe, luckily I only took a small portion. It took me quite long to finish everything on the plate. The food tasted like plastic.

This is the problem when you've had 2 months of home cooked food. During the first 2 weeks of confinement food was prepared by the CL, so it was either chicken soup or haruan soup. When my maid arrived and my mom went back to kampung I cooked most of the days (for lunch and dinner). I had to cook actually, in order to show the maid how to prepare food properly. Yeah, my friend told me that it's going to be a long adventure teaching bibiks to do things 'our' way.

I didn't prepare 'fancy' food, just the usual ones that are easy to cook and didn't require too many ingredients. But still, they're home cooked food. You know how the ingredients were cleaned, cut and cooked. You seasoned them to your liking. You let them simmer on the stove until the meat was tender.

Yesterday, on my first day of coming back to office, I went home for lunch. I knew it wouldn't be easy to stomach food from the nearby food court or the office cafe. At the same time, I was also doing a spot-check on the maid. Thank god everything was ok at home. The baby was also doing fine. Although he looked rather lonely because he's left only with the maid and there's no usual loud noise in the house.

I think tomorrow I'll just tapau breakfast and lunch from home. Outside food has lost its appeal these days. Tengok pun takde selera. When I passed by the food stalls, the only thing coming to mind was, 'Dia cuci bersih tak ikan ni sebelum goreng?'

The Duck That Refuses to Die

OMG, this is so scary.
Tim Burton should make a movie out of this, but Johnny Depp is definitely not going to be the duck.

ALOR GAJAH: A duck that refuses to die after having its throat slit twice has become the talk of Masjid Tanah here.
Bahari Ali, 44, said he slit its throat about 7.45am on Sunday, but found it alive hours later.

The poultry farmer said the duck's throat had nearly been severed, but it was none the worse for it.

"Its throat had a large cut but the duck was still breathing," he said.

After observing the duck for 15 hours, Bahari sought the help of an imam to finish the job.
However, the duck did not die even after the imam slit its throat a second time.

Bahari said he had expected the duck to be dead by morning, but found it waddling around as usual.

"It is beginning to smell bad and cannot eat because of the two cuts. But it is still doing what it normally does in its coop," he added.

Look at that! Eww, ewwer, ewwest!!

Perhaps, Johnny Depp should be the imam who tried to finish the job.

Spring cleaning time!!!

I hate spring cleaning mainly because I hate cleaning. I’m allergic to dust. Five seconds into dusting the unopened old boxes, I’d be sneezing away like a mad woman. I also hate spring cleaning because it would mean digging the long forgotten things and there are possibilities of recalling old memories. For instance, when I was re-arranging blankets in an old cupboard at my mom’s house before I got married, I found some old bush jackets that belonged to my late father.

He used to wear those when he as working as a manager and lived about 50 km away from us. I was only 7 then and couldn’t understand why my father had to live in another house so far away, but was afraid to ask my mom. She told us that my father had to stay there because it’s too far for him to commute. Yet, I remained confused. As a child you’ll always have the feeling that people would stay away from you if they don’t like you. I was miserable for that whole year and couldn’t remember any happy memory when I was in Standard 1.

Anyway, I had to do some spring cleaning at home after I got back from JB this week. The realization and inspiration came when I couldn’t find the matching pillow case for my bed sheet. The closet was filled with my clothes, garbage, blankets, garbage, pillowcases, garbage, bed sheets, garbage, shopping bags and more garbage. The garbage were things that nobody would expect to find in a closet like modem cables, proposal files, slippers, plastic bags, Christmas decorative lights (what?), batteries and pewter.

My way of doing spring cleaning is very simple. Brought everything out of the cupboard and threw them on the floor. Had a good overall look at the stuff lying on the floor while making an initial list of things to throw away, relocate and give away. Well, 60 percent was garbage and I was not surprised. The last spring cleaning was in 2002 after a break-in.

After sifting through the garbage I found a silver bracelet that I bought in Jalan TAR during one of my retail therapy sessions. I must have brought it sometime in 2003 during a very critical project phase where the whole project team had daily dosage of retail therapy. We bought everything from scarves to trinkets to handphones.

There was also a torn briefcase which I used in early 2003. This one also came from the same career chapter as the silver bracelet. I found meeting minutes, system architectural designs and problem reports in the briefcase, and also a half eaten karipap. WHAT? KARIPAP? From early 2003??? Gosh, I almost puke there and then. But then again, I started having mixed feelings like the first time people discovered Egyptian mummies: amazed and disgusted at the same time. The karipap was still wrapped in two plastic bags; I must have bought it from the Makcik near Taman Kinrara’s 7-eleven. What amazed me was that the karipap was well preserved; the pastry looked as fresh as if it was just being fried that morning. However, I didn’t have the heart to look closely at the filling that has turned blackish or even tried to smell it. It was 5 years old, for heaven’s sake, it qualified to be sent to a food museum, if there’s any in this country!

What amazed me even more was that I suddenly remembered how the karipap got there in that torn briefcase - half eaten. During those days, the company President always called for Project Status Meeting at 8a.m and the project office was in Jalan Raja Laut, KL. So, obviously I didn’t have time to eat breakfast. I usually resorted to buying some kuih from that Makcik at Taman Kinrara whose stall was about 300 meters from the daycare and had breakfast in the car while braving the guaranteed congested Sungei Besi highway. That morning, as I was eating that fateful karipap, my project manager called to inform that I was supposed to present something during the status meeting. I was so gabra because I totally forgot about it and didn’t prepare any slide for the presentation. So, I shoved the half eaten karipap into the briefcase, stopped at the Shell station, booted up my Thinkpad and prepared the slides. My proton Iswara was such a multipurpose vehicle; I ate, slept and did my work in it. On that same day, I was hurrying to go somewhere and the next thing I realized was that the briefcase was torn. When I got home that day I just threw it inside my closet and decided to just use the Thinkpad bag to store my documents – and totally forgot about that half eaten karipap.

But then again, how was I supposed to remember about that karipap because it didn’t produce any stinking smell nor did it attract any rat or ant. It just sat there and preserved itself hoping that someday, someone might discover it and it was I the chosen one to stare at it disbelievingly and full of disgust on that Thaipusam day. Hahahaha.

Oh yeah, for your listening pleasure, check out these new songs I recently uploaded to my Multiply:

Ignorance Is Bliss

Can you imagine your hubby parading in your lingerie and most probably in your stilletos in front of the mirror? Hmmmm..... not a really good sight, unless your hubby is the fair and 'jambu' type with minimum hair on the parts other than his head (upper head I mean).

So, what should we do women of the Millenium.... should we catch our hubbies cross dressing?

Perhaps we can:
1. Drag him to his parents' place for a few hours of 'ceramah'?
2. Snap some pictures, enlarge and frame them?
3. Join the party, we cross dress as man?
4. Cry? (buat drama lebih-lebih sikit)
5. Give him a few hours of 'ceramah'?
6. Interrogate him? (kalau dah cross dress, mesti ada pasang jantan, nih!)

Life as a woman is getting more challenging these days. I wonder why many men want to become us.

Updated 3rd August (Spena's Birthday!) 2.34pm:

After Googling further (apasal la keje aku asyik mengGoogle aje sekarang ni?), I found proofs that the letter is not real. It's a spoof of "Dear Miriam" that appeared in a satirical publication. Kesian Dr. Miriam Stoppard, orang buat lawak macam ni kat dia....

My hair stood on ends

This is a ghost story.
Our office building was haunted recently. There was not much stories on ghost sightings here before this, but in May there were two.

Sighting 1

It was a Tuesday night. The email server was down due to corrupted disks. Our macho system admin had to perform maintenance during the night. He started early, but due to some technical complication the activity dragged until way past midnight.
He almost gave up on recovering the email database. The whole disk seemed like a gone case. About 2 a.m, as he was sitting at his cubicle he felt another being was standing just beside him. He knew something was there, he looked down and saw part of it: no legs on the floor. He decided to ignore it, but the being stayed. It didn’t scared or hurt him, it just stayed beside him. Then the macho system admin had to go to the washroom. The being followed him. When he came back to his cubicle, so did the being: tagged along like an inseparable friend. Yet, it didn’t make any attempt to communicate. The system admin had to continue with his work. As he didn’t see a possibility that the data could be saved, he decided to just rebuild the RAID on the whole disk (this is the same as and sometimes even worse than doing a disk format) after his manager gave a green light over the phone.
Once the re-RAID process completed, he started the email database process. Wallaweh, he got the surprise of his life, all data was still intact!
When I met him the next day I asked how was it possible to see the data after the disks were being rebuilt, his answer was ‘Server tu berhantu. (The server is haunted.)’
It was not clear when the being left him that night. People said the thing followed him until he went into the elevator to head home. Another colleague asked me whether the being helped him recover the lost data; I couldn’t help but laughed out loud.

Sighting 2

It was a Saturday afternoon when the accounting clerk came to the office to print an urgent document. After sending the print job, she walked towards the printer that was located a few cubicles away from hers. A few steps before reaching the printer, she saw a thing sitting with its knees up, on a desk near the printer. It was a figure of a woman. Although the face was unclear, she knew it’s a woman. The accounting clerk braved herself for a few seconds to pick up her print job, then her things and hurried to the elevator to leave the office.

Not long after that, the management summoned the ghostbusters to come and clear the place. They did it on a Friday night and completed at 5 in the morning. Some of my colleagues witnessed the exorcism process as well as the ‘area fencing’ part. They couldn’t see anything through their bare human eyes, but according to the ghostbusters, they managed to capture the spirits on two different floors (yes, the floors where our macho system admin and the accounting clerk had the encounters).

There were no more new sightings after the ‘cleaning’ activity was done.

Then we heard one of the account managers tendered his resignation. He has been sick for more than 2 months. According to his close friend, he had been having dreams day and night. Every time he dozed off, he’d have the dream. It was the same dream every time. A woman would come to him, the same woman in every dream he had. Then one night, he dreamed the woman came to bid him goodbye, that’d be the last time she’d be able to visit him. The date actually coincided with the Friday night of the ‘cleaning’ activity!

Then there’s another story of a pregnant colleague, who has been staying at home for she’s having some complications. She was also having those dreams, where a woman came and paid her visits. That same night, the woman bid her farewell for she couldn’t come again. It was her last visit.
The pregnant lady has now started working again. She approached the accounting clerk for some descriptions of the figure she saw on the desk that Saturday afternoon. They perfectly matched her uninvited visitor in the dreams! Erkkkk... scary.

We don’t work late here anymore. Everybody tries hard to complete everything by 5pm nowadays. By 5.15 my floor is empty. Another good excuse to spend my days at customers’ places or better still, at Starbucks!

Mistery solved

Ooops... this is not about the mamak stalls and my love-hate relationship with them yet. Not just yet. Be patient and have a little faith in me, ok.

This is about the magic plant (remember? from the last posting?)

I knew who replaced my plant with a new one!

It was a guy.

...young!

...cute!

...macho!

... very shy, one!

... soft spoken! (is that Dafi AF5 in your mind? Hahahahah!)

He's actually just one of the guys whom I meet in the office everyday, but never bothered to say hi, or good morning, or 'dah makan', or how are you feeling today. I never actually looked him in the eye. (Ye, saya tahu saya memang sombong!)

I was so moved when the tea lady told me that he was the one who gave the plant. He put it on my office desk during the weekend, when nobody's around. I didn't know what to say, how to thank him.

So, I dedicate this posting to him.

Dear Kebun Boy,

you are nice.
i like!

Pokok pelam pokok keladi
Ada new plant, bagi lah I lagi!

Pecah kaca pecah gelas
sudah baca harap balas.

Hahahahahah!

Five In One

This is one of the weeks when I have so many things to share, yet too little time to write.

-------------------------------------------------------

1. Tak larat

This phrase was widely used in my high school-STF to express the feeling of indescribable flattering that the whole body feels wobbly like jelly.
I was ‘tak larat’ last Thursday when I realized my article was published at D1na Zaman’s iammuslim2 website. That day I didn’t have internet connection, as I was stuck in a darn cold data center and having to work in between the equipment racks – standing up. Then right before lunch, a guy I just got to know a week ago called me, asking:

‘Is this you at D1na’s blog?’
It took me a while to make out what he’s talking about.

‘You mean in the comment box?’ I asked to confirm.

‘No, today’s article. They put your name in this article.’

‘They put which name? My blog name?’ Yes, I have a few cybernames.

‘No, not that one, they put your other name?’ Hmmm… ok… that’s confusing, what other name he meant?

‘Are you sure it's me? Did they put my picture there?’ I asked jokingly.

‘No, no pictures. But I think this is your article.’ He’s really anxious to know.

‘Well, I’m not sure that’s mine. Let me check first and I’ll tell you later.’

Hell, I already knew that it was my article, because the Editor emailed me to confirm which name I preferred to be made public. Hehe. I just enjoyed torturing that guy. Hahahahah. Later that day, at about 7pm, I texted him to confirm that it was my writing. When I checked the blog again, I saw that he has left a comment there, and guess what, he happened to be one of those anonymous bloggers with really admirable writing style, whom I’ve been dying to know who. That left me quite in shock but really excited for a few minutes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Putra He1ghts Fiesta

I was so engrossed reading my Cleo magazine in the car and didn’t realize that Mr. Hubby had driven us to Putra Heights on Sunday afternoon (yes, I was reading that 50 most eligible bachelors’ issue with full concentration that I was not aware of my surroundings! Hehe)

So, there was a fiesta organized by the housing developer, I believe. We went from one booth to another to check out the newly launched phases. Most of them were linked houses ranging from 24 X 75 to huge semi-Ds that I know I can never afford to buy in this lifetime (the link house’s price starts from RM399K – bumi might get about RM350K lah I think). Anyway, I had no interest in the houses; I was watching a group of kids riding mini-bikes in a small circuit. They’re so cute, aren’t they?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. I’m Posh

It’s been many months since my last hair cut, it has grown long that I have problem tying them and covering them with my scarves. I was also starting to hate it when it took almost an hour to dry (I hate to blow-dry, please don’t recommend me to use it).
Yesterday, after breakfast I told Mr. Hubby that I want to cut my hair short. He asked which style. I said I want the Victoria Bekham hair. That was when he made the frozen-in-time look (you know, eyes widened, mouth half opened and stopped his hands in mid-air). I just ignored it.
I went to SACC, Shah Alam to have the cut. Luckily, they have the style in one of the Japanese hair magazines they showed me. I pointed to the picture and told them I wanted that cut.
The stylist was good. It took her less than 15 minutes to have my hair done. After some blowing and applying some unknown hair cream, she held the big mirror and let me have a look at my new hair from every angle. Well, the end result was satisfying, only that I looked more like Misha Omar (plus 30 kg) than Victoria Bekham. I asked the stylist if she could make my hair about 1cm above the shirt collar, and her reply was:
‘Aiya, cannot aaah miss. Your face tak sesuai lah.’

Later on when I told that to Mr. Hubby, he said what the stylist really meant was, I’m too fat for that style. Hahahah… yeah…I know how skinny Mrs. Bekham is. Anyway, the Misha Omar look is not bad at all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Magic plant

There was a pot of plant on my office desk that had been in a state of ‘hidup segan mati tak mahu’ for months. I watered it 3 times a week but it was not showing any positive sign to grow healthily like those I have in my laman. Actually this small pot was taken from my house, so maybe it was due to the office aircond or negative vibes here that it refused to live well. My floormates have been asking me on what’s happening to my plant, whether it’s surviving or dying soon. I just told them to be patient and give it sometime because I know with regular watering and care it will turn out okay.

When I came to the office this morning, I had a surprise of my life. I saw the same pot on my desk, but it was a different plant inside it. I asked around but nobody seemed to know who put it there, they expected I’ve brought a new one. It was impossible as I’ve been at customer’s place for many days. Hmmm… now I need to shoot out the email to find out the mysterious person who was kind enough to give me this plant and must thank him/her for such a hart warming gesture.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Vaginapalooza

As promised to Azer, I am putting up this topic here. It’s an article I found while browsing ivillage.com – the ultimate women’s reference site. Go there and read it, then after you’re done throwing up or cursing, come back here and tell me what you think, okay? *wink* *wink*

The night of horror

You Are 70% Psychic

You are pretty psychic.
While you aren't Miss Cleo, you've got a little ESP going on.
And although you're sometimes off on your predictions...
You're more often right than wrong
So go with your instincts - you know more than you think

I've been under the weather for many days, and yesterday was the worst. I couldn't sleep last night because of nasal congestion and my throat was as dry as the desert. When I was finally in dreamland, I suddenly felt something moving in my ears, very near to the ear-drums. I woke up screaming while shaking Mr. Hubby's legs,

'Tolong! Tolong! Ada insect masuk telinga I!' I was shaking my head at the same time, hoping that the insect will fall out. I was panic stricken as I could feel the poor creature buzzing and flapping it's wings inside my ears, and that's very close to my brain.

Mr. Hubby woke up with a start and went to grab his handphone, I thought he was going to call for an ambulance. He switched on the phone and it started to illuminate. He then put the gadget next to my ear while pulling my hair to the back.

'What are you doing?' I thought he was dreaming still.

'The insect will go towards the light. Here... come here... insect. It's an ant or 'kelkatu'?' he was still holding his phone next to my ear.

'How would I know what it is. All I know is that it's still alive! This is not working, get something else.' I was half screaming then, that had to be my worst fear (hey, not having money in the bank was not as horrible as this experience, ok).

Mr. Hubby went to get a metal ear cleaner (the thing with one end shaped like a small spoon). He started digging my ear with the device. At one point, I thought the metal thing touched the insect that it started struggling again.

'Arhhhhh! It's still alive! Get it out! Get it out!' I was almost in tears then, I imagined the creature will crawl inside my ear tunnel, then headed straight to my brain and with one sting it will paralyse my medula oblongata (whatever that section was for, I couldn't remember).

'I cannot see inside your ear!' Mr. Hubby gave up and pass me the ear cleaner. I started digging myself, slowly and carefully; afraid that I would injure my ear drums. After a few minutes of fruitless digging effort, I couldn't feel anything anymore. Was it dead? Has it fallen out? Or it's buried inside my skull? I looked on the bed, between the sheets, on the floor and in my pyjamas, but couldn't find it.

Once I was sure it was not bothering me anymore, I continued sleeping. Until today I'm not sure whether it's still there.

The Tiger's Eye and I

It's a semi-precious stone Roman warriors wore to war for protection. It is said to have a certain power to make you braver, focusing the mind and be more determined.

Mrs A got me a string of them from KK, yeay!

My lunch buddies (back in X*b***) must've remembered when I bought two strings of tiger's eyes in early 2005. I was in a big dilemma then; kept on asking my friends whether I should quit my job and become a fulltime house wife. It was a difficult time as I was indecisive.

However, that was not the reason I bought the 2 bracelets. Guess499 was a huge fan of semi-precious stones, so one day we went to the crystal shop in KJ, planned just to window shop. Alien and me were more interested in the citrine (because we're both mata-duitan), but they're so expensive: a bracelet costed about RM300 ++. Then, the sales girl introduced us to tiger's eye. I was not really listening to what she was explaining, my eyes were fixed on the price tags. They're quite cheap, and beautiful; they're called tiger's eye, but they really reminded me of cat's eyes (tigers are also cats what... appa raaaa!) So, I decided to buy 2 of them!

Two weeks later, I handed in my resignation letter to X*b*** HR.

Some friends called me superstitious, but I believe the stones had some effects on me. Ask any scientists, they'll be able to present you some facts that minerals release electro charges or have some other chemical reactions with human bodies.

The most obvious difference I felt after wearing tiger's eye 10 hours a day was, I could focus better. Usually I was always in a hurry, chasing the next hour, chasing tomorrow, chasing uncertainties. After wearing the bracelets for some time, I found myself inhaling deeper before I started a new task; I was able to pause from time to time while I was doing something, allowing my mind to think of more possibilities before jumping into any conclusions. In other words, I was less rushing.

Now, after 2 years, again I found myself in almost a similar dilemma. This time I have 2 major decisions to make; both could change my whole life as I would be making a 90 degree turning. Both, I'm not able to discuss with my friends as there are so many uncertainties and some of the pre-requisite hurdles, I am not able to jump over them, just yet.

The tiger's eye from Mrs. A was so timely. Is it going to take me 2 weeks, or 2 months to make the decisions, I don't know yet. Let's just pray for good things to come my way. Aaamiiiin.
