Come, let me show you the way...

No, I don't do that.

I don't show people the way.
I only influence them on how to think about  finding the way. On how to achieve targets. On how to make decisions.

When a person decides on something, they've somehow thought it through before sharing it with me. I won't tell them, NO that's a bad decision. I also won't say, YES that's the best way to do it.

Instead, I always challenge them whether they can justify the decision to themselves. Not to their parents, their bosses nor their spouses, but to themselves. We don't live to please others. It's impossible to please everybody. What we decide today is only based on the information currently available. We don't know what will happen in 2 years' time. So, no decision is bad and no decision is the best one.

It's tough to know and accept that someone in the team decided to leave. But it's tougher to convince her that her future is brighter here.

So, I'll just her justify it to herself.

By the way, I never counter-offered staffs who tendered their resignations.
